Route 15

Hold Tight

Route 15 is identified as the location of a U-Store-It storage unit that becomes the focus of a final investigative scene. The road is not otherwise described; its significance comes from the discoveries made at the unit beside it.

Setting

On a cold Saturday morning, the same day Essex County Prosecutor Paul Copeland is due to marry for the second time, he stands outside a U-Store-It unit on Route 15. His wedding is six hours away. Loren Muse tells him he does not have to be there, but Copeland says there is still time before the ceremony. The scene places an impending personal commitment alongside an investigation that remains unfinished.

The Storage-Unit Search

The unit’s supervisor finds the key and unlocks the door. Detectives then enter in a group, making the Route 15 location the threshold to a search whose outcome matters to the case. The evidence establishes the unit’s location and the moment it is opened, without describing the road or the surrounding area further.

Investigative Significance

At the unit, Muse notes that Marianne Gillespie never sent the tape. The investigators have checked the claim: Guy Novak says Marianne told him about it and intended the threat itself as punishment, but Guy sent the tape to Joe Lewiston’s wife. The Route 15 scene therefore connects the physical search to the dispute over who circulated the recording, distinguishing Marianne’s threat from Guy’s action.
